Phillipa joins the Emmerdale Village Tour team!
Philippa, who lives at one of our supported living services in Huddersfield, has landed her dream job and completed a college course, all with the help of her Lifeways team.
When she first moved in, Philippa was excited about her future but lacked confidence.
“When I came here, I was really shy and quiet but being here has helped my independence and I’ve felt able to go back to college and travel on my own. I studied Level 2 in Health and Social Care and a Level 2 in Mental Health Awareness which I found really interesting.”
Philippa is 29 and one of her goals was to get a paid job before she turned 30. So, her support team helped her with interview techniques and to find and apply to her dream job at the Emmerdale Village Tour.
Achieving my goals
Philippa says, “I have just started my first ever paid job with Emmerdale (the TV soap). I wanted to get a job before I was 30. It is a dream come true and without the help of Ryan, the manager, I would not have been able to come this far and have gained employment. The whole team has been amazing too."
What makes this more amazing is that this was the first job Philippa applied for! She credits her support team with helping her feel more confident and ultimately getting the job. She has now been working for four weeks in her new role and absolutely loves it!
“I do lots of things,” she added, “I help sell merchandise in the shop, I sell refreshments from the kiosk and I look after any guests who have limited mobility.”
She has also been shadowing the tour guides and is picking up some great Emmerdale knowledge!
“I never thought I would be able to go to college or even travel on a bus on my own, but I have, and I’ve landed my dream job. I wouldn’t have achieved any of this without the support from my team.”
She is looking forward to her birthday and has lots of fun things planned, including bowling, a meal out and a trip to Whitby with her family.
Well done Philippa!
