Apple House
Life-changing support for adults with autism and autistic spectrum disorders.
Type of property
At Apple House apartments, people come together as a community. Living in this shared building means people benefit from a vibrant network of staff and friends, as well as enjoying the independence of their own apartment.
The building has twelve one-bedroom apartments - the ground floor apartments are wheelchair accessible, and the upper floor apartments can be accessed via a lift. Each apartment has a kitchen, living room, and a wet room style bathroom. There is a communal area and a sensory room too. Apple House also has a garden with a trampoline for people to use when the weather is good.
Assistive technology includes a Tunstall connected care system, and intercom and CCTV.
Valued in your community
At Apple House, we are located in a residential area with peaceful surroundings. The local area has cafes, pubs and restaurants, as well as a post office.
Blackburn is easily accessible from the property and offers the Empire Theatre, museums and art galleries, a Vue cinema, Planet Ice for skating, the Mall Shopping Centre and Market, Tenpin Blackburn for bowling, and many historical landmarks. For people who like to stay active, Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre provides year-round access to a gym and swimming pool.
Nearby Preston also provides access to a range of vibrant cafes, restaurants, shops and attractions including St George’s and Fishergate shopping centres, and an Odeon cinema. There are a number of museums in the area too - Ribble Steam Railway and Museum is a popular choice.
Preston is also home to the Creative Space Centre - the UK’s largest multi-sensory centre for people with special needs. There are three sensory rooms, all with modern lighting and sound projection equipment, a social and eating area and beautiful gardens. This is a wonderful space for both children and adults to enjoy.
Living at this service
Apple House is ideal for a person with learning disabilities or autism. People living here enjoy trampolining, walking, shopping, listening to music, watching television, cooking, gardening, swimming, socialising, and being in the community.
At Apple House, people choose how they spend their time. Day trips to Blackpool, Southport, Stockport and the coast are favourites.
“Apple House is an autism specialist centre with highly trained staff. They work hard to keep the atmosphere throughout the building calm and structured. The people we support enjoy living here - the apartments are brand new and people can create their own home while having full daily support.” Manager, Apple House
