Parklands
Life-changing support for adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities or acquired brain injuries.
Type of property
At Parklands we empower people with autism and learning disabilities to live as independently as possible, to become integral members of the community and to achieve their goals and aspirations through individual care pathways.
This six-bedroom detached bungalow has a laundry room and two communal bathrooms - one with a bath and one wetroom-style. The rest of the property is split into side A and side B, each with an open-plan kitchen and living room. The two living rooms have patio doors that open onto an accessible garden with a patio for people to use when the weather is good.
Valued in your community
Parklands is in Harwich, which is a residential area with pubs, cafes, restaurants, high-street banks, shops, an Electric Palace Cinema, a post office and a library. A short walk will take you to a number of coastal attractions including Cornwallis Battery, Beacon Hill Fort, Harwich Radar Tower, Harwich Redoubt Fort, low and high lighthouses and Harwich Harbour.
For people who like to stay active, Dovercourt Swimming Pool and Harwich Sports Centre provide year-round access to exercise classes, sports courts and a swimming pool. People also enjoy walking in the local area. Dovercourt Beach, Cliff Park and Bobbit’s Hole are popular destinations.
Nearby Colchester offers larger attractions and amenities including Colchester Castle, the Natural History Museum, St John’s Abbey Gate, Culver Square and Lion Walk Shopping Centres, Tenpin Colchester for bowling and an Odeon Cinema.
Living at this service
The two women we support enjoy swimming, going to the library for audio books, having picnics in the summer, Disney films and walking on the beach. One of the men likes having stories read to him, visiting local places and driving in the car. Others enjoy being outside, sensory activities, going to the cinema, spending time with staff and being in the community.
At Parklands, people choose how they spend their time. People have hobbies including listening to music, watching television, shopping, karaoke, and socialising. Trips to the coast, local tourist attractions and garden centres are favourites.
“Parklands is within walking distance from the beach and harbor, as well as high-street shops. The staff are consistent and some have been with us for 15 years. The bungalow is large with enough space for everyone, and has a beautiful garden. The atmosphere is very calming in the house and all of the people we support get along really well.” Manager, Parklands
