Learning to live with an acquired brain injury can be a difficult time in a person’s life. That’s why Lifeways are here to provide practical and emotional support to help create positive outcomes for each person’s individual journey. We make sure to carefully tailor our support to meet the needs of each individual based on their type of injury, and we offer this support throughout every stage of their recovery journey with us.

Acquired brain injury support at Lifeways

We’re here to provide specialist acquired brain injury support through rehabilitation and supported living. Whether it’s helping with a transition out of inpatient rehabilitation, support with regaining everyday skills, help rebuilding confidence, or getting back out into the community, we’ll be on hand every step of the way.

Through our community teams, we can arrange the following therapies to help with recovery journeys:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Occupational therapy

We also help people living with ABI to regain everyday skills such as:

  • Washing and dressing
  • Using public transport
  • Doing the food shop
  • We can also offer valuable advice and support to people starting volunteer work or other types of work placements

Flexible supported living for those with an acquired brain injury

As part of our specialised support, we offer acquired brain injury supported living. This allows us to provide personalised support, while individuals still benefit from the independence of living alone and being able to choose how they spend their time.

The level of support we provide is completely flexible, whether that be a few hours a week or
24/7 assistance; we will use our in-depth knowledge and understanding of acquired brain injuries to tailor our support for each individual. We make it our goal to get to know each person and to hear their story, so we can understand the type of support they need.

Zak's story - a big step to living independently

Zak, like so many others, lives with an acquired brain injury. Before moving into his own tenancy, Zak was living in his family home. He has since moved to supported living with Lieways, which has been a big step toward his growing independence.

A support worker at Lifeways says, “It’s amazing to see him smile, have a good time and do something that he never thought he’d be able to do.”

Zak himself says, “My aim is to live independently one day, and I’m interested in a job in the care sector. So, my support team enrolled me on the Lifeways e-learning programme.”
