Team Leader Amelia

Lifeways Team Leader Amelia Webb shares her story of progression from a teenager struggling to decide on her future to a career in care at Lifeways.  

"I first joined Lifeways back in 2012 as a Support Worker. It was not my first job in care but was my first in a supported living environment. I left in 2015, staying in the care sector, but moving into a more administrative role. I missed the day-to-day support involvement, so I returned to Lifeways in 2017, again as a Support Worker. In 2019 I gained promotion to the position of Team Leader. This is a source of pride for me as I left school a slightly directionless teenager and feel that I have really found my niche working in care. 

Within my job at Lifeways, I try to act as a positive role model and escalation point to my team. The role of a Team Leader is a varied one, but the main areas include supporting workers so they can perform their roles to the best of their abilities, through team meetings, inductions, supervisions, one to ones and appraisals. I also assist and support my management team to run the scheme in line with relevant legislation and develop individual care plans. 

I feel a sense of achievement every day. I am immensely proud of the team ethic that we’ve created at Grove Court. We are only a small part of the Lifeways family, but I take huge satisfaction knowing that we make a real difference to the people we support. One good way to highlight this would be the (now legendary) Halloween parties we put on at Grove Court. The staff go above and beyond to make it happen and the people we support appear to embrace and enjoy it in equal measure. 

I love working for Lifeways because of the cliché things: the colleagues, the people we support and the variety - no two days are the same. The thing is, it’s all true. A career in care is one that can provide you with real fulfilment. Lifeways is a company that cherishes good staff and nourishes potential. I have always felt supported by my management and I feel a real desire to provide that same support to my team. There is a real sense of togetherness, with the ultimate shared goal of providing the best possible level of support we can.  

I feel that Lifeways allows me to provide the level of care and support I would want someone to provide one of my loved ones if they ever needed it. A great philosopher once said you need three things for a good life. A meaningful relationship, a decent job of work and to make a difference. I can genuinely say that a career with Lifeways has given me all three in some shape or form. Meaningful relationships with my colleagues and the people we support, the decent work is hopefully self-evident and I really feel like what I do makes a difference. 

Outside of work, I’m Banksy. Sorry, scratch that, I am not Banksy, repeat not Banksy. I’m terrible at art and definitely do not make a habit of spraying graffiti. I am at my happiest when spending time with my loved ones, something my job allows me the flexibility to achieve. I love music and can often be found annoying my colleagues with my impromptu singing".
