Angela's Care Sector Journey
Angela Dodds, Registered Manager, shares her experiences of working for Lifeways and in the care sector.
“In 2001 I started working for Care UK for the nursing home division. Then in 2002 I joined Care Solutions, the sister company – a care provider that provided support for adults with learning disabilities which was then taken over by Lifeways. From the beginning, you could see how much they promoted independence, choice, and person-centred values as a company and I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. I started as a Support Worker and loved the freedom of supporting people in their own homes and helping them live independent lives. I felt in a really positive place where I feel I can make a real difference in improving people’s lives for the better which is why I initially wanted to work in the industry."
What’s something that has changed during your time at Lifeways?
"I would say one of the biggest changes has been the way in which we can now deliver training. Training is now available to people at all levels across the business on a vast range of topics. This has been a great way to help everyone keep up to date on relevant training and give people the knowledge and skills they need to progress in their career".
How will you be celebrating Lifeways' 25th birthday?
"We are always organising fun activities and parties where we dress up for Halloween, Christmas parties, and tea parties. We do these to raise money for charities and it’s great to see the people we support take part in helping others".
What is your favourite Lifeways memory?
“My favourite Lifeways memory is a tough one, as I have so many to choose from. I guess it would be all the events we have put on for staff and people we support, making great memories seeing the smiles as we make life's better for people by including them and making everyone feel a part of the Lifeways family. I have made some friends for life and have met the most amazing inspirational people we support who make my job worthwhile”.
