From Aerospace Engineer to Lifeways Area Manager
Area Manager for Leicestershire James Brind, shares his story on his massive career change from Aerospace Engineer to the care sector, in celebration of his 3rd year anniversary at Lifeways.
Starting his working life as an Aerospace Engineer and Apprentice, James spent most of his time in a factory. A setting that he believed wasn't for him, so he made the brave and difficult decision to leave his current career path and pursue other options. Options which led to him joining our amazing Lifeways team back in 2017. This is all thanks to a recommendation from one of his friends, who is now a fellow colleague:
"One of my friends worked in social care and he said he could get me a job. I only planned on this being a stop-gap for the summer, while I figured out what I wanted to do. Now I am where I am today.
I have been working for Lifeways for over 3 years and being able to give back and make a difference in people's lives is an amazing and fulfilling job. I believe we really take a lot for granted, like going to the shop on your own but for some of the people we support, this is a great achievement. It's rewarding to be a part of their journey".
James is now loving his job at Lifeways as an Area Manager for Leicestershire.
His role means that James oversees the operational efficiency and quality of the support that is provided across the region. It is his job to deliver the best support and extraordinary care for people with complex and diverse needs, to ensure they live a fulfilling and independent life. He is now responsible for 15 managers, 391 staff, and over 10,000 hours of care. The area continues to grow with the positive relationships that have been developed with local commissioners and the other Lifeways colleagues.
"The staff continue the journey with me and work hard to achieve positive outcomes every day. They work with me to achieve a common goal … to be better than we were yesterday".
