Heron Court Service Manager, Susan Green puts her passion to work
Susan Green, Registered Manager at Heron Court, our new supported living service in Leith, knew her calling involved looking after and supporting people from an early age.
Following a traumatic experience with her mum at the age of 11, when she sprang into action to take care of her following a postoperative complication, Susan recognised she had a strong desire to help people.
“I remember it as if it was yesterday. My dad and my siblings were panicking, and I took control, asking my dad to call an ambulance while I took care of mum; I knew then what I wanted to do”
Lending a hand was always in Susan’s nature and she always offered to help others whether offering to help her gran with the housework or babysitting for relatives and friends.
Susan’s career has given her a wealth of experience
Susan’s career started in 19987 in the care sector as a support worker and she was quickly promoted to senior support worker and then service manager in 2001.
Her career provided her with experience across several different settings including nursing homes, hospitals and within the community. In addition to various qualifications gained over the years she also undertook a distance learning autism spectrum qualification at Birmingham University and is a proact SCIPr trainer, which allows her to deliver training to colleagues on supporting individuals who may present behaviours that challenge.
Teamwork
When talking about what makes her team so successful at Heron Court, Susan says “openness, honesty and transparency, we all work together, there is no number 1 in the team”
Above all Susan keeps one thing in mind when supporting individuals “I treat everyone in the way I would want a member of my own family to be supported. Everyone deserves the opportunity to develop and learn from mistakes just in the same way as you or I.”
