Valued in your community
At Appleton House, we are fortunate to be located in a peaceful village with peaceful surroundings. The local area has small cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Ormskirk is the nearest town, and provides access to cafes, restaurants, shops, high-street banks, a post office, and a library. For people who like to stay active, Park Pool provides year-round access to a gym and swimming pool.
In nearby Southport, there are lots of things to do, including Southport Pleasureland, Pier and Beach, Marine Lake Promenade, the Model Railway Village, a Vue Cinema, Tenpin Southport for bowling, theatres, art galleries and high-street shops and banks.
People also like to visit Liverpool, which has numerous museums and art galleries, Liverpool ONE Shopping Centre, the Liverpool Empire, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Imagine That Science and Discovery Centre. And we’re spoilt for choice for beautiful walks - the docks, Toxteth Park, Wavertree Botanic Gardens and Sefton Park are just a small selection.
Liverpool is also home to The Reader Organisation - a charity specialising in shared reading to improve mental wellbeing. Located in Calderstones Park, people can visit the Reader Cafe or the Storybarn to join shared reading sessions, where stories are read aloud and then discussed.

“At Appleton House, all the people we support are very different from each other but they mix well and have created a really friendly and pleasant atmosphere within the house. It is a very active house in the countryside - quiet but not isolated.” Manager, Appleton House
