Brook Street
Type of property
At Brook Street people are welcomed and supported to live independent lives.
Brook Street is a four-bedroom bungalow with an additional guest room. There’s a good size lounge, a dining room, a kitchen and a small laundry room. There is also a sensory room for people we support. The house has two bathrooms, one with a Hi-Lo bath with ceiling tracking hoist and one with a walk-in shower and ceiling tracking hoist.
Outside there’s an accessible garden with a patio. Assistive technology can be tailored to suit the needs of each person. There is level access into the bungalow.
Living at this service
Life at Brook Street is suitable for people with learning disabilities, autism or physical disabilities.
The service currently supports three people with learning disabilities who are physically disabled. The property is very well set out and decorated to peoples’ personal choices including individually decorated bedrooms.
The people here enjoy varied activities based on their individual interests or needs and love getting involved in community activities. We have a regular chiropodist and a weekly physiotherapist who offers passive exercises and massage to support people’s mobility.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in all activities including cooking and cleaning. People are supported to live the life they choose, and often go out shopping, for coffee and for meals.
Valued in your community
Brook Street is in a residential area of Snodland, a small town with shops, pubs and takeaways.
There’s a library, post office and community centre. Nearby there are convenience stores and hairdressers, with a popular weekly market. Maidstone is easily accessible by car and public transport, and has a range of high street shops and independent stores. There’s also a cinema and museum, plenty of public parks and places to eat. Leeds Castle is nearby and is an excellent day trip destination.
For people who like the outdoors, the house is close to the River Medway and a popular local park. Leybourne Lakes Country Park is a short drive away and offers 200 acres of woodland walks, lakes and a café.
“This is a lovely service and one of the people living here has been with us over 25 years! The team enjoys excellent relationships with the people we support and everyone is very caring and responsive to people's needs. We have good relationships with our local social services team who often comment positively on the support we provide. The house is happy and calm but always a fun place to be.”
