Moorgate Mill
Life-changing support for adults with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries or mental health conditions.
Type of property
At Moorgate Mill apartments, people come together as a community. There are two shared buildings, Moorgate Place and Mill House. Living in a shared building means people benefit from a vibrant network of staff and friends, as well as enjoying the independence of their own apartment.
Moorgate Place has twelve fully accessible apartments, while Mill House has eight. Each has one bedroom, an open-plan kitchen and living room, and a wet room style bathroom. There is also an accessible, shared garden with a patio and a BBQ for people to use when the weather is good.
Assistive technology includes an intercom system, CCTV, a fob system on doors, and automatic blinds and lights.
Residents are allowed pets - we currently have three cats and a dog onsite.
Valued in your community
At Moorgate Mill, we are located in a residential area with peaceful surroundings. The local area has cafes, pubs and restaurants, as well as a library and a post office. There is a canal at the back of the property, where people can enjoy beautiful walks.
Blackburn is easily accessible from the property and offers the Empire Theatre, museums and art galleries, a Vue cinema, Planet Ice for skating, the Mall Shopping Centre and Market, Tenpin Blackburn for bowling, and many historical landmarks. For people who like to stay active, Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre provides year-round access to a gym and swimming pool.
Nearby Preston also provides access to a range of vibrant cafes, restaurants, shops and attractions including St George’s and Fishergate shopping centres, and an Odeon cinema. There are a number of museums in the area too - Ribble Steam Railway and Museum is a popular choice.
Preston is also home to the Creative Space Centre - the UK’s largest multi-sensory centre for people with special needs. There are three sensory rooms, all with modern lighting and sound projection equipment, a social and eating area and beautiful gardens. This is a wonderful space for both children and adults to enjoy.
Living at this service
We currently support a wide variety of people here, with varying needs. It’s a very busy and independent place, where people enjoy going to their own clubs and activities.
People enjoy walking, shopping, listening to music, watching television, gaming, bingo, watching football, ice skating, cooking, swimming, socialising, and being in the community.
At Moorgate Mill, people choose how they spend their time. Trips to Blackpool, the local Christmas Markets, and the coast are favourites.
“People enjoy living at Moorgate Mill because it’s within walking distance from all necessary amenities - you don’t need to go into town if you don’t want to either. The community is safe and friendly. The apartments are only five years old so they are in good condition, and a regular handy man comes to help out. The environment is safe and happy, with staff available 24/7.” Manager, Moorgate Mill
