south tyneside

By Chris Woodhead, Chief Commercial Officer, Lifeways

At Lifeways, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to lead a more independent and fulfilling life, no matter how complex their needs.

That’s why I’m excited to share the news that we’ve been chosen to support 12 people across two brand-new supported living services in South Tyneside.

After a successful bid, we’ve been awarded the contracts to provide support at Hedgeley Road in Hebburn and Concorde Way in Jarrow.

These fantastic new services, developed in partnership with South Tyneside Council and Karbon Homes, are due to open in the coming weeks. Across the two sites, there are 21 homes designed to help people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex care needs live as independently as possible.

Lifeways will provide 24/7, on-site support for people in 12 of these homes, and we’re eager to make a positive impact on the lives of the people who’ll call these places home.

‘A significant moment’

This is a significant moment for Lifeways as it marks the launch of our second enhanced support service. The first, The Maples in Mansfield, has truly been transformative for the five people we support there.

It’s been inspiring to see how a dedicated team, using Positive Behaviour Support and intensive support approaches, can help people move from long-term hospitalisation to living in the community.

It’s proof that with the right support, remarkable outcomes are achievable.

We’re incredibly proud of our reputation for delivering exceptional support, and these new services in South Tyneside are an opportunity to build on that success. It’s not just about providing care - it’s about creating an environment where people feel empowered to take steps toward independence.

‘Encouraging’

I’d also like to commend South Tyneside Council and Karbon Homes for their vision and commitment to making a real difference for vulnerable people in our society.

Their partnership has resulted in high-quality housing, including bungalows and one- and two-bedroom flats, all designed to provide a safe, supportive, and welcoming space.

It’s encouraging to see this level of investment in supported living. Services like these are vital for helping individuals thrive in their communities, and at Lifeways, we’re proud to be at the heart of this positive change.

Looking ahead, we’re eager to bring our expertise and passion to Hedgeley Road and Concorde Way. We can’t wait to meet the people we’ll be supporting, work closely with their families, and see them flourish in their new homes.

This is what Lifeways is all about - helping people achieve greater independence and improving their quality of life. It’s more than a job; it’s a privilege.
