Lifeways' R02 Football Tournament 2026

Lifeways’ Region 02 Football Tournament returned for its third year, bringing together team members and the people they support for a day of competition, teamwork and celebration as six areas went head-to-head.

Teams from supported living services in A56 Nottingham, A26 Doncaster, A18 Leeds & Bradford, A10 Halifax, A07 Sunderland and A06 North of Tyne took to the pitch at Northallerton FC in North Yorkshire, each determined to take home the glory of victory and the coveted shield.Lifeways R02 Football Tournament 2026

“This is the third year we’ve run the football tournament. It’s been a brilliant event every time, so we’ve continued to build on it,” said Area Manager Helen Morris, who organised the day.

“Each team was made up of Lifeways team members and the people we support from across the region, and the focus is on making sure everyone can take part and enjoy themselves. No matter the result, everyone leaves with a medal.

“The tournament means so much to the people we support. For some, playing football at an official stadium is something they’ve always wanted to do, and being able to help make that happen is incredibly rewarding. Seeing everyone come together, support one another and have fun is what the day is all about.

“It’s about much more than football. It’s about building friendships, creating memories, boosting confidence and bringing people together.” Lifeways R02 Football Tournament 2026

A total of 10 heats took place, with each match lasting 15 minutes, before the field was narrowed down to a grand final between A06 North of Tyne and A07 Sunderland.

After a closely fought contest, A06 North of Tyne emerged victorious, with star player Clayton proving the difference by scoring a series of hat-tricks throughout the tournament. Lifeways R02 Football Tournament 2026

Amy Gilbert, Managing Director of Lifeways’ Supported Living division, was on hand to present players with their hard-earned medals.

She said: “Region 02’s football tournament is always a huge hit with team members, the people we support and their families, and we’re delighted to see it continue to grow year after year.

“At Lifeways, we are passionate about creating opportunities that help people live fulfilling lives, pursue their interests and be part of their communities. Events like this do exactly that, showcasing the power of inclusion and the positive difference shared experiences can make.

“Congratulations to everyone who took part, and especially to North of Tyne on a well-deserved victory. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next summer.”
