Beada House summer fete raises funds for mental health charity
Service users, team members and community partners came together for a fantastic day of fun and fundraising at Lifeways’ Beada House summer fete in Bedworth.
The event, which was held at the mental health service on 15 July, was officially opened by Colin Cape, Mayor of Bedworth and Nuneaton, who spent time meeting the people Lifeways supports and team members. Lisa Garrard, Beada House Service Manager also thanked her team for their hard work in organising the event.
The summer fete was organised by representatives from Lifeways’ Executive Advisory Panel (LEAP), a group of the people Lifeways supports who advise the organisation on a range of topics, and the Beada House team. It showcased the commitment, creativity and teamwork that makes the service such a special place. Service users and team members from Lifeways’ mental health services in Birmingham, Peterborough and Northampton were also in attendance, creating great community spirit.
Blessed with glorious sunshine, attendees also enjoyed a wide range of stalls and activities including a cake stall, tombola, henna tattoos, raffle, BBQ, ice creams, refreshments, gift stall, sweet cones and mindfulness painting. The stalls were run collaboratively by service users and team members, providing opportunities for everyone to get involved, develop skills and welcome guests.
The event also welcomed a range of external partners and stakeholders, including local police officers.
The summer fete proved to be a great success, raising almost £500 for Mind, the mental health charity. Mayor Colin Cape also shared on social media how visitors were made to feel welcome and described a day filled with "sun, fun and burger buns".
Speaking about the fete, Mark Spraggs, Managing Director Mental Health, said: "The Beada House summer fete is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when the people we support, team members and local partners come together to create something special. Events like this provide opportunities for people to build confidence, develop skills and strengthen connections within their community.
“I'd like to thank the Central Area Mental Health LEAP representatives, the Beada House team, the people we support and everyone who attended for making the day such a memorable success."
Lauren Whittle, Managing Agent for Inclusion, who act as the property managers for Beada House, added: “It was a great turn out and lots of familiar and new faces. We were able to discuss what Inclusion do as well as how we work with Lifeways with the local Mayor, Colin Cape, who is also going to promote this where he can and offer support where he can. Such a great event and well prepared and managed by the residents, the managing agent and Lifeways staff!”
