‘It makes me feel important’: how Johnathan’s learning to be a reporter! the meadows

The Meadows, our Lifeways residential service in Leyland, Lancashire, is home to a budding in-house reporter, Johnathan.

A recent 18-page newsletter, compiled by Johnathan, an individual we support, covers all sorts of news from the service, including:

  • trips to Preston and Blackpool
  • a disco light session
  • a new hairdo
  • a section on birthdays
  • COVID-19 guidance on keeping safe.

Johnathan produces his newsletters several times a year on a computer, with the support of Lifeways colleagues.

Each pages contains rainbow-coloured titles, photos, and quotes from individuals who live at The Meadows.

What motivates Johnathan to write these newsletters?

“It makes me feel important,” says Johnathan. “It keeps my mind occupied and I like to know what everyone is doing.”

About the Meadows:

The Meadows is a residential service. Made up of five self-contained apartments, with communal areas, the service offers the ideal mix of independent and shared living space – and support whenever individuals need it.

The service supports adults who live with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries (ABI) and mental health needs.

The Meadows is part of Lifeways, the UK’s largest team of professionals who support adults in the community.
