Learning Disability Week 2022: Why we’re proud to support people
At the start of Learning Disability Week 2022, which runs from 20-26 June, we said we’d gather comments on why people were proud to support individuals with learning disabilities.
We were touched by the amount of passionate responses were received from our 11,000 team members across the country.
So as promised, we’ve created a word cloud, which you can see at the top of this article, to see the most common words people shared with us.
What’s more, we’ve placed below a selection of several comments that our team members wrote about supporting people with disabilities:
- Having the opportunity to support people to fulfil their potential, change perceptions and not be afraid to dream.
- Anyone who works in social care will tell you, we’re not in it for the money but the sense of achievement you get by supporting a person to achieve the smallest outcome. You just can’t put a price on that!
- I have learnt more about kindness, honesty and hard work in the last 6 years than I had the previous 36 years.
- I am proud to work with the individuals we support because I see so many people living fulfilled and active lives and being part of their own community.
- I’m proud to support people with learning disabilities because I love seeing their smiles and happiness when they achieve things that they have previously been told they wouldn’t be able to.
- I love helping people overcome obstacles that are usually put in place by other people, to do what they want to do and how they want to do it. I love making the world adapt to people, rather than people adapting to the world.
- If I make them smile I’m doing something right.
- It’s the most rewarding job, supporting people to live very happy, independent and meaningful lives.
We hope reading these awesome comments has brightened your day!
