The team at Rose Meadow

A residential care home in Nottinghamshire for adults with learning disabilities and autism has opened its doors to families, friends and commissioners to celebrate a £250,000 refurbishment completed by Lifeways.

Dozens of people attended the festive gathering at Rose Meadow in Misterton last Thursday (December 4) to see the improvements first hand - including a dedicated Christmas-themed bedroom - while enjoying a mince pie or two.

After months of work by the Lifeways Property Team, the building has been beautifully refurbished into a modern, accessible home, retaining its distinctive mock Tudor character and specifically designed around the needs of the people we support at the service. The newly refurbished Rose Meadow serviceKaren Jones, Managing Director of Lifeways’ Residential Care division, said: “It really was an early Christmas gift to see Rose Meadow reopen its doors this week.

“The refurbishment has genuinely transformed the building for the better and will help us continue delivering high-quality, person-centred care for many years to come.

“The Property Team have done a remarkable job, and I’m incredibly grateful to them and to everyone who played a part in bringing this project to life.” The newly refurbished Rose Meadow serviceAs part of the refurbishment, the original ornate ceiling features have been restored to their former glory, several bedrooms have been re-decorated with unique themes. These include everything from one person’s love of Harry Potter to another’s fascination with Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family.

The work was carefully tailored to improve the lives of the people supported at Rose Meadow. For example, a resident who previously had an en-suite with only a toilet and sink and preferred daily baths now has a new en-suite that includes both a bath and a shower, removing the need to walk downstairs.

There is also a brand-new fully fitted kitchen, modern bathrooms and en-suites, a refurbished medication room and a new larder, all installed in line with Lifeways’ branding.

Andrea Ellison, Head of Property at Lifeways, added: “We absolutely loved bringing this refurbishment to life.

“Transforming the bedrooms into spaces where the people we support can feel truly comfortable was a real highlight. Every decision was guided by privacy, dignity and each individual’s interests and hobbies, as well as the insight of our staff who know them so well.” The newly refurbished Rose Meadow serviceDawn Shelton, Registered Manager at Rose Meadow, explained how the specialist Property Team worked closely with the people they support, using their knowledge and experience of learning disabilities and autism to make the renovation process smoother.

“They formed genuine relationships with the individuals we support. I saw one of them dancing in his own time to Steps with one of the people who live here - it was magical to see,” she said.

Dawn also highlighted the pride the refurbishment has instilled among both staff and the people they support, making them proud to be part of the Rose Meadow family.

Lifeways’ Rose Meadow service offers residential care for up to eight adults and currently supports five people. It received an overall ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission in its last inspection in 2019. Find out more about Rose Meadow here: Rose Meadow | Lifeways
