Lifeways completes major £750k renovation at Burton-On-Trent residential care home

A residential care home for adults with learning disabilities and autism in Burton-On-Trent has reopened following a major £750,000 refurbishment by Lifeways.
After months of work by the company’s Property Team, Trent View welcomed families and professionals on Tuesday (August 19) for an open day to showcase the improvements.
The home was officially reopened by Laura, supported by her mum, one of the people supported by Lifeways at Trent View and who is looking forward to moving into her brand-new room. Other residents, who were temporarily relocated to alternative services during the refurbishment, will be returning over the coming weeks, but have all been actively involved in the work, choosing colours and furnishings for their spaces.
Karen Jones, Managing Director of Lifeways’ Residential Care division, said: “It was a privilege to see Trent View reopen following this full refurbishment, and I can’t wait for the people we support to start moving into their brand-new bedrooms.
“The Lifeways Property Team have done an incredible job, delivering an extensive list of improvements while also preserving the Victorian character of the building - including the restoration of the original tiled floor in the entrance.
“This is exactly what Lifeways is all about - providing high-quality, person-centred care to the people we support, and that starts with the quality of our homes.” The three-storey home has undergone extensive improvements since work began earlier this year. Renovations include:
- A completely new roof
- Repairs to the main staircase
- Restoration of the original tiled entrance floor, which had previously been covered with wood
- Full refurbishment of all eight bedrooms
- Creation of a new office on the first floor
- Installation of a sensory room on the top floor
- A new medication room
- Refurbishment of the communal bathroom on the top floor
- Upgrades to two lounges and the dining room on the ground floor
Registered Manager Ellen Parton explained that the building was previously in poor state of repair but has been brought back to life, while keeping the Victorian character that makes it special. She thanked Lifeways and its Property Team - led by Andrea Ellison and Carl Wilkinson - for their incredible support.
“Everything we hoped for has been delivered. Lifeways has invested a lot of time and resources into this building, and we now have top-quality furnishings and a beautiful, welcoming space for the people we support,” said Ellen.
“I have worked in care for 38 years, and Lifeways has got to be one of the companies I’ve worked for in that time that has been spot on with everything.” Kieron Steele, Lifeways’ Chief Financial Officer, added: “The transformation of Trent View has been incredibly rewarding. What was once a building in real need of attention is now a beautiful, welcoming home that reflects the needs and choices of the people we support.
“It’s one of several major refurbishments our Property Team is delivering, and we’re excited to see the difference these projects are making in people’s lives.”Trent View currently houses four adults but provides a flexible and comfortable living environment that can accommodate up to nine people. The home was last rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in 2022.
