Lifeways staff and people they support outside a service in the East Midlands

A support service for people with learning disabilities and autism in the East Midlands is celebrating a major turnaround following its latest inspection report.

Lifeways Community Care (East Midlands) has moved from "Requires Improvement", to an overall rating of "Good" following a visit by Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspectors between 2 and 23 June.

Inspectors praised the service for delivering person-centred support tailored to individuals’ needs and wishes, with people also supported to pursue hobbies and interests.

Amy Gilbert, Managing Director of Lifeways’ Supported Living division, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our team for their dedication and hard work in improving the service. This CQC report is a clear reflection of the outstanding care our staff provide, ensuring the people we support enjoy the best possible experience every day.”

Inspectors found:

  • Staff knew how to keep people safe from danger, reported concerns appropriately, and helped people move between services safely.
  • People were supported to make choices about their care, with staff working alongside them and other services to provide joined-up support.
  • People could do things independently if they wished, with staff respecting their choices.
  • People were treated fairly.
  • The service consistently aimed to provide high-quality care, with regular checks to ensure standards were maintained.

“People spoke positively about the service they received, and the care staff provided,” the report read. “We observed staff to deliver person-centred support, and it was evident people guided the support they received.

“We saw good examples of how staff had ensured people’s care and support was tailored to their individual needs and wishes. People were supported to pursue their hobbies and interests.”

All health services in England are provided one of four ratings by the CQC: Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, or Inadequate.
