The social care sector needs to operate as efficiently as possible – with cost savings of 1% being significant – writes Kieron Steele, Lifeways’ Chief Financial Officer, in an opinion piece published in LaingBuisson News.

In Kieron’s article, published Monday 11 November by the health and social care news outlet, he notes:

  • After the government's Autumn Budget, ‘this acute ramping up of cost pressures has increased markedly’
  • Yet, ‘not all roads to efficiency are controlled by providers…These elements are all within the Government’s power to address, and in the process, improve the sector’s financial sustainability at (virtually) zero cost’
  • Changes include reducing office registration requirements, removing needless re-tenders, and commissioning residential services larger than six beds, where appropriate.
