Lifeways’ Jessie takes the mic to promote inclusivity through new podcast

An aspiring presenter, supported by Lifeways, is launching her own podcast to explore how disabled people and professionals can work together to create a more inclusive world.
Jessie, who lives at the Stourside supported living service in Stourport, has named the podcast Let’s Collaborate, with each episode focusing on real-life challenges such as accessible transport and assistive technology.
The project is already gaining momentum, with support from members of Lifeways’ Executive Leadership Team. Quality Director Gareth Roberts has confirmed he will be a guest on the show.
“I'm quite passionate about person-centred care, and it’s really important to me that people have some knowledge about it,” said Jessie.
“I want to break down barriers and get to know the professionals behind it all - starting with Lifeways.”
Jessie also thanked the team who have supported and encouraged her throughout the process, crediting them with inspiring her to launch the podcast and to become a member of the Lifeways Executive Advisory Panel (LEAP), which helps ensure the voices of people supported by Lifeways are central to decision-making.
“It means everything in the world,” she said. “Everything I’ve done, I’ve been supported to do it.”
As well as highlighting important issues, Jessie hopes her podcast will give friends and family a better understanding of her contributions through LEAP and the Talk Time Club - a relaxed space where people supported by Lifeways speak directly with senior leaders.
“I think it would be nice to give them a little snippet of what I’ve been up to,” she added.
Looking ahead to her interview with Gareth, Jessie said she’s eager to find out what inspired him to join the social care sector and take on his current role. She also hopes to interview company CEO Andrea Kinkade in a future episode.
Once it’s fully up and running, Jessie is hoping to upload episodes of her podcast to YouTube for everyone to watch. Before that, though, she’s hoping to get her hands on a neon sign to help with branding - something the team at Lifeways are eagerly looking into for her.
