Lifeways’ Staffordshire and Walsall services join for spooktacular Halloween celebration

Ghouls, cheerleaders and even Smurfs came together for a day of Halloween fun organised by Lifeways and the people it supports in its supported living division across Staffordshire and Walsall.

More than 50 people from 15 different services attended the event at Stafford Rangers Football Club, which was co-produced from start to finish by staff and the people they support. Together, they chose the venue, planned the entertainment, selected the food, and even decided on the different competitions and decorations.

The day featured karaoke and dancing to spooky favourites such as Thriller and Ghostbusters, while also raising £50 through a lucky dip and raffle to be donated to a local charity, along with handmade items created by people supported by Lifeways.Lifeways’ Staffordshire and Walsall services join for spooktacular Halloween celebrationArea Manager Nicola Beasley said: “We had such a fantastic time at our Halloween party. Our staff and the people we support worked hand in hand to bring the whole event to life -from choosing the venue and food to planning the competitions.

“It was a brilliant example of our CHOICE values in action - Caring, Honest, One Team, Innovative, Courageous and Equal. Even the balloons were chosen to reflect those colours. It really showed what we can achieve together.”

The event was the first of its kind for the area, bringing together a range of different services that don’t often have the chance to connect. Following its success, teams are already planning to make it a regular tradition.

“We had some really great feedback from the people we support. Even the staff from all the different services really enjoyed getting together and we can’t wait to do it all again,” added Nicola.Lifeways’ Staffordshire and Walsall services join for spooktacular Halloween celebrationShe also shared a particularly heart-warming moment from the day, explaining that she wasn’t sure if one person would join in - as they rarely take part in such events. However, they stayed for the entire celebration and had a fantastic time, marking a huge personal achievement.

Lifeways’ Director of Quality Gareth Roberts added: “This event was a brilliant example of co-production in action - people supported by Lifeways working alongside our teams to shape and deliver something truly special.

“The creativity, enthusiasm and teamwork behind the celebration perfectly reflect what Lifeways stands for, and I’m so proud of everyone involved.”
