Four people supported by Lifeways have been granted 'wishes' as part of the company's 30th anniversary in 2025

As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, we’re proud to be making dreams come true for the people we support across the country.

Earlier this year, we committed to granting 30 wishes across 2025 and invited Lifeways colleagues to nominate people we support for a once-in-a-lifetime treat - something meaningful, fun, or unforgettable.

In May, four more incredible individuals were selected and their stories show just how powerful a little joy can be.

Kevin, a person we support in supported living in Chesterfield who’s currently undergoing cancer treatment, was overjoyed to be told his well-deserved break to Butlin’s has been selected.

“I feel so excited and grateful to have won a trip to Butlin’s with Lifeways’ 30 Year Wishes,” said Kevin. “As someone going through cancer treatment, this means so much to me. It gives me something fun to look forward to and makes me feel special and cared for. I feel safe and supported at Lifeways. This holiday is a real boost, it helps me forget about my worries for a while.”

Area Manager Georgia Hooley nominated Kevin. She said: “Knowing that Butlin’s offers accessible facilities and inclusive activities means Kevin can enjoy the trip without stress. This is exactly the kind of joy and respite he deserves.”

Robert’s big day out rewards his community spirit

Robert, who lives in one of our supported living services in Manchester, was stunned to hear he’d won a special day out at the seaside. He was nominated because of the amount he does to help out around the service.

“I never thought something good like this could happen to me,” said Robert. “I didn’t think people cared enough to do something like this. I feel very happy and still can’t believe it!”

Robert’s planning to visit Blackpool or Southport for a memorable day by the sea. His support worker, Jackie Atkinson, said: “To say he was overwhelmed is an understatement. It means so much to him.”

Stephen is a talented former church organist but, after COVID restrictions, he has struggled to leave his supported living service in Merseyside. But he is now about to fulfil his lifelong dream of recording in a professional studio.

“I’m so honoured to be chosen for a 30 Wishes award,” said Stephen. “My dream has always been to record in a studio and I’m so happy I’ll be able to achieve it.”

Maria Broda, the service manager, added: “It’s a proud moment for us. Knowing Stephen will achieve his dream brings joy to the whole team.”

Louise heads to the West End after a difficult year

Louise with Deputy Manager Amanda Vargas

Louise, who receives support at one of our mental health services in Northamptonshire, is heading to London’s West End for a dazzling night of musical theatre.

Nominated after a challenging 18 months, including the sudden loss of her mother and her father’s cancer diagnosis, Louise is now preparing to live independently for the first time.

“When I first moved into Lifeways, I was just starting out,” said Louise. “Thanks to the amazing people I’ve met here, I’m the most settled and independent I’ve ever been. After a tough time, it’s so nice to have something positive to look forward to. Thank you so much.”

Her support worker, Paul Richardson, said: “I can’t put into words how happy I am for Louise. She’s overcome so much. This is a beautiful way to recognise her progress and resilience.”

He also paid tribute to the Salam Lane team: “All the credit goes to Manager Libby, Deputy Manager Amanda, and the whole team who’ve supported Louise over the past six years. We’ll miss her, but we know the next chapter of her life will be amazing—just like her.”

Keep an eye out for more incredible stories as we continue to grant special wishes during our anniversary year.
