Our Glasgow supported living services garner more fresh Care Inspectorate ratings!
Two more of our Glasgow supported living services have received ratings of ‘Very Good’ from Scotland’s care regulator, the Care Inspectorate – one after being inspected for the very first time!
The two services, run by Lifeways and Living Ambitions, part of the Lifeways Group, support a total of 21 adults, either in their own homes or in shared homes.
Lifeways in Scotland provides housing support, supported living, and residential services at over 130 locations around Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, North and South Lanarkshire, the Highlands, and Inverness.
The provider also runs Loch Park Day Centre, a unique lochside service in the heart of the Highlands in Keith, Moray.
All our services in Scotland are regulated by the Care Inspectorate and other regulatory bodies. The Care Inspectorate provides care services in Scotland with one of six ratings: 6 – excellent, 5 – very good, 4 – good, 3 – adequate, 2 – weak, and 1 – unsatisfactory.
Here’s a summary of the Care Inspectorate’s findings across these two services.
‘I’m very happy with the support’: Avon
At these housing support services, collectively known as Avon, we provide care for 13 people with learning disabilities living in their own homes in North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, and Glasgow.
The Care Inspectorate carried out an unannounced inspection of the service over two days in October 2024.
What the Care Inspectorate report says about Avon:
- “The service worked creatively to ensure people were supported to achieve very good outcomes and life experiences that were meaningful to them.”
- “We spent time with people who had previously experienced social isolation. They were now supported to develop friendships, attend social clubs, and be active members of their community.”
- “A supported person told us ‘I’m very happy with the support, I love spending time with [staff]’.”
- “An inclusive culture had been developed that offered people, relatives, and staff opportunities to express their views.”
Formula for success
The success of the service’s fresh new rating is due to always learning, said Keith Anderson, Avon’s Registered Manager.
Likening the attaining of the new rating to following a recipe, Keith outlined the steps he and his team had taken:
“Start off with an experienced, motivated, and compassionate staff team. Add structure, guidance, coaching, and mentoring.
“Stir in some good oversight, governance, and quality assurance. Whisk in a new supportive management team.
“Simmer then sprinkle with fun, joy, laughs, unicorn and penguin costumes, and a wicked sense of humour.”

‘Very positive and caring relationships had been built up’: Glasgow South East Registration 4
At these housing support services, we support eight people with learning disabilities to live in their own homes or shared homes, of which there are five across the south and east of Glasgow.
The Care Inspectorate carried out an unannounced inspection of the service over two days in September 2024.
What the Care Inspectorate report says about Glasgow South East Registration 4:
- “Personal plans were person-centred and it was clear independence was promoted.”
- “Staff supported people at their own pace, and no one was rushed or hurried. Staff knew people’s preferences very well and this meant care was given based on people’s choices.”
- “People were enabled to get the most out of life and get involved in a wide range of activities they enjoyed.”
- “[Support] plans had a person-centred approach. They highlighted people’s health and social needs and described how they should be met in a way that was meaningful to the person.”
