The inspirational Head of Health and Safety at Lifeways has been crowned Woman of the Year at the prestigious Safety and Health Excellence (SHE) Awards.

Judges at the UK-wide awards selected Heather Wright because of her inspiring leadership, innovative approach and her ability to simplify safety rules so they can be easily understood by a wider audience.

She was one of 12 women who work in health and safety nominated for the final. She said: “It was a total surprise - but of course a great feeling!

“On a personal level, it is great to have all the years of training and experiences, both operationally and strategically, recognised. But I am just one person and it is the whole of Lifeways that works together collaboratively to enable positive health and safety achievements to be made.

“I am proud of what I, the team and the rest of Lifeways have achieved, everyone has played a part.”

Gareth Roberts, Director of Quality at Lifeways, said: “We’re so delighted and proud of Heather’s and her team’s achievements. The vital work they do makes Lifeways a better, safer place for the people we support and team members.

“Heather always considers people first and her approach has resulted in seismic improvements across health, safety and risk management at Lifeways.”

Health and Safety at Lifeways is already an award-winning service, with the team winning three gongs in 2024:

  • Health and Safety Awards – excellence in risk management and assessment
  • Safety & Health Excellence (SHE) Awards – best use of health and safety data to lower incident rates
  • British Safety Council International Safety Awards - Team of the Year
