£500k transformation begins at Lifeways Abingdon service in Southport
Work has begun on a £500,000 improvement project at Lifeways’ Abingdon residential care service in Southport, which supports people with complex needs, including autism, mental health conditions and learning disabilities.
Lifeways’ dedicated Property Team, alongside contractor partner EPT, has begun the 32-week project, which will see a range of improvements made to the service to enhance the environment for the people who live there.
Kathryn Evans, National Property Manager at Lifeways, who was on site as work began, said: “We’re delighted to see work get underway on another major investment in our Residential Care services. Our Property Team works hard to ensure the people we support have high-quality, comfortable and welcoming places to call home, and this project is another great example of that commitment.
“Over the past three years, we’ve invested more than £11.3 million across our Residential services, delivering refurbishments right across the country, from Southampton to Newcastle. We’re delighted to now be bringing this expertise to Abingdon in Southport.
“We know that a person’s environment can have a huge impact on their experience of care, which is why we’re committed to continually investing in and improving our services. We’re incredibly proud of the work our Property Team is doing and excited to see the transformation at Abingdon take shape over the coming months.”
As part of the renovation, the people supported at the service have been involved in choosing the colours, finishes and overall look of their bedrooms, helping to ensure their spaces reflect their individual tastes and personalities. While the work is underway, they are also enjoying some well-deserved holidays before returning to their newly refurbished rooms, with each person getting their own special ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.

Abingdon is a Lifeways Residential Care service in Southport, supporting up to nine people aged between 20 and 60. The service provides a welcoming, lively environment where people are supported to live as independently as possible and make the most of their lives.
