The team at Kingdom House

A Sheffield service providing residential care for people with learning disabilities and autism has witnessed a remarkable turnaround from its previous ‘Requires Improvement’ rating.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has awarded Kingdom House, run by Lifeways, an overall ‘Good’ rating following an inspection conducted between August 19 and September 10.

The report praised the commitment of the team. Following the recent departure of the manager, the area manager supported the deputy manager with the day-to-day running of the service, spending three days a week on-site. A new manager has now been appointed and will take up the post shortly.

Karen Jones, Managing Director of Lifeways’ Residential Care division, said: “We’re thrilled with the recent CQC report for Kingdom House. The hard work and dedication of the team has really shone through, and we’re incredibly proud of their efforts in improving the service.

“This report is a clear reflection of the outstanding care our staff provide, ensuring the people we support enjoy the best possible experience every day.”

Following its last inspection in late 2024, the CQC rated the service ‘Requires Improvement’ for how effective and well-led it was but awarded a ‘Good’ rating for how safe, caring, and responsive it was. All five of these areas have now been rated 'Good'.

The report outlined that staff were good at supporting people in their care to be independent and to make their own choices, with one relative saying: “[Family member] is supported to be as independent as possible and they are given the opportunity to choose how best to perform a task.”

Another person’s relative added: “I could not be happier with the care and support [family member] receives. I cannot think of anywhere else I would like them to live.”

Kingdom House is a residential care home providing support for up to eight people, but at the time of the assessment there were five people using the service. All health services in England are provided one of four ratings by the CQC: Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, or Inadequate.
