DM Beada House

We’re delighted to celebrate a major milestone for Lifeways resident DM, who has successfully secured a tenancy in the community and moved into her own independent accommodation.

DM has lived at Lifeways’ Beada House mental health service in Bedworth, Warwickshire for nearly six years, having previously come from an independent tenancy into supported accommodation where she needed additional mental health support. During her time with the service, DM has worked closely with the team on her recovery plan, building confidence, independence and resilience.

For more than two years DM has been signed up to the Move On service, which involved registering with the local council and actively bidding on council properties, in order to find a home that could meet her specific mobility needs.

“DM has worked incredibly hard to get to this point,” said Beverley Deeming, Deputy Manager at Beada House. “She’s been fully engaged with her recovery plan and showed real determination and patience while waiting for the right property to become available.”

Throughout her time at Beada House, DM was proactive and involved in service life. She regularly took part in activities, tenant meetings and team events, as well as contributing to planting, garden projects and decorations. Before moving she also took the time to personally thank staff and fellow residents, giving cards to show her appreciation for the support she received.

“She’s always made the effort to get involved and connect with others,” Beverley added. “Those relationships and that sense of belonging have really helped her grow in confidence.”

One particularly positive moment came when a commissioner visited the service to carry out a housing survey. DM confidently shared detailed feedback about her experience, contributing to the service being recognised by commissioners for the quality of support provided.

“When DM first started with us, she wouldn’t have had the confidence to speak up like that,” said Beverley. “Seeing her have her say, knowing her voice mattered, really showed how much her self-esteem had grown.”

The Beada House team supported DM to build relationships with her new staff team ahead of moving, to ensure a smooth transition into her new home.

“We’re all incredibly proud of her,” Beverley said. “She’s done really well, and it’s been a privilege to support her journey into independent living.”

A huge congratulations to DM on this fantastic achievement and best wishes as she settles into her new home.
