Lifeways’ DJ Bulldog makes waves in Peterborough’s music scene
An aspiring DJ supported by Lifeways has released a series of electrifying mixes, beginning to make a name for himself in the local music scene.
Originally from St Ives, Matthew - better known by his stage name DJ Bulldog - has been living at Lifeways’ Copeland supported living service in Peterborough for just over 10 years. With encouragement from the Lifeways team, he recently started sharing his DJ mixes online.
Inspired by legendary trance DJs Paul van Dyk and Armin van Buuren, Matthew visits a local recording studio twice a week with staff support, where he creates fresh beats and hones his skills.
“I love music. I used to mix vinyl records when I lived in St Ives and I’ve got tons of CDs at home - I just can’t get enough of it.” said Matthew.

Matthew’s journey with Lifeways has also brought significant positive changes to his life. When he first joined the service, he was heavily addicted to smoking, going through up to 100 cigarettes a day. With consistent support from the Copeland team, he has since quit both smoking and drinking.
He praised staff for accompanying him to non-smoking appointments, which played a key role in overcoming his addiction, as well as supporting him to attend college and build independence.
To show his appreciation, DJ Bulldog released The Lifeways Song in October, celebrating the organisation’s 30th birthday and thanking staff for helping him achieve a healthier lifestyle.
“A lot of my friends from back home have passed away because of smoking and drinking. Lifeways helped me find my voice, supported me to live independently and gave me the chance to choose a different path. Staying sober is something I’m really proud of,” he added.

Registered Manager Ashia Milliken said: “We’re incredibly proud of Matthew and everything he has achieved. He showed real determination to quit drinking and smoking, and it’s been a privilege to support him on that journey. We all absolutely love his mixes, and we’re delighted to support him as he pursues his passion.”
