A team of people winning an award

A Lifeways residential service in Worcestershire has been crowned the best team in the West Midlands in the regional heats of a major national award.

The team at Woodbury View in Worcester won the Best Home Care Team Award at the West Midlands regional final of the Great British Care Awards, a national scheme aimed to celebrate excellence across the sector.

Judges described the team as providing “truly exemplary care” for their extraordinary compassion and commitment to the people they support, especially in a recent case where they went above and beyond to support someone at the four-bedroom service.

When the person they support became seriously ill and was admitted to hospital, the team quickly recognised the distress caused by being away from familiar surroundings.

Believing they would recover better at home, the team worked closely with hospital and community health professionals to create a tailored recovery plan, including daily physiotherapy and round-the-clock staff support.

Their proactive advocacy and collaboration ensured the person they support could safely return home, where they stood for the first time in days – a remarkable turnaround that demonstrated the power of trust and personalised care.

A family member said: “I wanted them home sooner because the team at Woodbury View know them best. They’re just brilliant – I never worry about whether they are happy or well cared for because I know they have the best care possible.”

The team will now represent the region in the national finals in February 2026.

Nicola Driscoll, Registered Manager of Woodbury View, said: “This award is a testament to the incredible care, compassion, and professionalism that defines our team. Whether it's going the extra mile for a person we support, supporting each other through challenges, or consistently delivering high standards of care, you have all shown what it means to lead with heart and integrity.

“Winning this award is not just about a moment of recognition - it's about the consistent effort, teamwork, and values that make our service exceptional. I couldn’t be prouder to work alongside such a committed and inspiring group of individuals.”

Alina Brathwaite, the Lifeways Area Manager who nominated Woodbury View, said: “I’m so thrilled for the team. They work so hard together to deliver exceptional support.

“This award and a place in the national final is richly deserved and reflects their amazing dedication to giving the best possible care to the people who live at Woodbury View.”

Karen Jones, Managing Director of Lifeways’ Residential Division, said: “Congratulations to the team on this recognition for the incredible work they do.

“Awards like this are really important for raising standards across the sector, boosting morale and showcasing what excellent support looks like and I couldn’t be prouder that our team is one of the leading lights.

“I wish them, and all regional winners, the very best of luck in the national finals.”
