Lifeways unveils first Hull service to support people recovering from mental health challenges
Lifeways has unveiled its first service in Hull, a new development created in partnership with Hull City Council, Target Housing and Continental Gold Developers to support people recovering from severe mental health challenges.
New Cleveland House, formerly known as the New Cleveland Club, will provide accommodation for up to 10 people in their own independent flats when it officially opens in mid-September.
The development also features staff accommodation, office space and a 1-1/meeting space. It was showcased for the first time to commissioners, partners and other professionals during an open day on Thursday, 23 July.

Richard Cunningham, Development Director for Lifeways’ Mental Health Division, said: "This is a significant milestone for Lifeways. Not only is New Cleveland House our first mental health service in Hull, but it's also the first Lifeways service in the city, marking the beginning of what we hope will be a long-term commitment to supporting local communities.
"Working alongside Hull City Council, Target Housing and Continental Gold Developers, we've created a service that will give people recovering from severe mental health challenges the opportunity to live independently while receiving the personalised support they need.
"Safe, high-quality accommodation combined with the right support can make a life-changing difference. We're incredibly proud to be opening New Cleveland House and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the people who call it home."

Originally built between 1904 and 1905 and used for employees of the British Oil & Cake Mills Ltd, New Cleveland House has a long history at the heart of the local community. It later became a social club in 1976, originally known as the Pearson Club.

Councillor Linda Chambers, the portfolio holder for Adult Social Care at Hull City Council added: “This new service will support vulnerable people with mental health needs settle back into the community. The council and its partners have done extensive work to shape a service designed around people's needs.
“This is part of the council’s commitment to support our residents’ health and independence as much as we can.”
