New supported living service Queen Oaks Court opens in Stoke-on-Trent!
Queen Oaks Court, a purpose-built supported living service for 16 adults with complex needs in the Bucknall suburb of Stoke-on-Trent, has now opened.
The service, which is operated by Living Ambitions, part of Lifeways Group, has been built from the ground up with these support needs in mind:
- learning disabilities
- autism
- acquired brain injuries
- and physical disabilities.
The service is made up of 16 self-contained one-bedroom apartments spread over two floors. Of the 16 apartments, four are suitable for people with mobility issues. Every person at the service has access to a communal garden.
24 hours a day, an onsite support team supports each individual to lead a fulfilling, independent life.
The services’ handy location makes it easy for individuals to access the local community, while receiving the right level of support.
‘Very excited’
Queen Oaks Court was named to pay homage to the now-demolished pub on its site, The Queen of Hearts.
“We’re very excited to open Queen Oaks Court,” said Ros Creamer, Lifeways’ Community Engagement and Development Manager for the West Midlands.
“Queen Oaks Court is a brand-new property and is finished to a high standard. Now we’ve opened, individuals are moving into their own homes here with support from Lifeways.
“Living in a shared building means people can benefit from social community living, while still having their own front door and privacy.”
One of the first individuals who’s moving in is Robert, an arts student who’s currently planning a custom artwork at the service.
“I think the move will both improve my independent living skills and help to future-proof my life,” he says.
