Support workers Louise, Joanne, and Sheila at our Lancashire supported living service, Square Lane, win at the Great British Care Awards!
Three support workers at our Lancashire supported living service, Square Lane, are regional winners for the Great British Care Awards!
This weekend, in a glittering ceremony held at Manchester's Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, Lifeways support workers Joanne Lynd, Louise Hull, and Sheila Mathers, jointly received the Care Home Activity Co-Ordinator Award - North West.
According to organisers, this award was given to the Care Home Activity Organiser who has demonstrated they can provide a needs-led, varied and appropriate programme for people who receive support.
'Incredible trio'
“What an incredible trio!” wrote the judging panel, in explaining their decision to award Joanne, Louise, and Sheila.
“Their stories captivated me so much that I almost forgot to take notes. They embody a true sense of family and independence, granting complete freedom and choice to the ladies they support. A clear winner - never change a thing!”
Joanne, Louise, and Sheila support three ladies who live at Square Lane.
Working together, the support workers and ladies they support have created a hive of activity - and a welcoming, happy home.
Imaginative programme
The ladies we support at Square Lane love day trips and holidays, and their support team, have worked in tandem to build a varied and imaginative activity programme.
Recent outings include visits to the zoo, Disney on Ice, afternoon tea at The Hilton, local festivals, dog shows, musical firework championships, and Madame Tussaud's, as well as the Emmerdale and Coronation Street tours.
When they're not busy out and about, there's plenty of indoor activities too.
Joanne, Louise, and Sheila have developed a varied programme of home events from tailored exercise programmes to themed evenings. These activities and events include:
- wheelchair exercises
- yoga
- pamper evenings
- karaoke
- barbecues
- and curry nights.
And that's not all. Celebrations and partying at home are firm favourites, and the team regularly help to transform their home into a party venue - birthdays, Easter, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Halloween, St Patrick's Day - nothing goes by uncelebrated!
Garden party
Last year, Joanne, Louise, and Sheila arranged a garden party with a pool, bar, music, and games inviting people supported by Lifeways from all over the North West. This was a huge success with over 30 guests, and they are hoping to make it an annual event.
Friends and family are an integral part of everyday life and are always consulted and involved, and the ladies are supported to see loved ones regularly.
The ladies supported at Square Lane all enjoy downtime too and are supported to enjoy solo hobbies - one lady loves sequin art and another researching interesting topics on her iPad. The support team has ensured a balance of activities that keeps the ladies healthy, happy, and thriving.
Congratulations, Joanne, Louise, and Sheila!
