Lifeways has unveiled a new welcoming hub at it's Hird Road service

Lifeways, the UK’s largest provider of support for people with complex needs in the community, has opened a new welcoming hub in Bradford designed to bring people together and create more opportunities for meaningful activities.

The new hub, connected to the Hird Road supported living service, officially opened its doors in November, followed by a small celebration with Lifeways team members and colleagues from Yorkshire Housing, who kindly donated the space.

Previously used as an annexe at a Yorkshire Housing property, the building became vacant when a customer moved on to a more suitable home. Instead of standing unused, it has been transformed into a warm, inclusive environment that will benefit the people Lifeways supports for years to come.

Just days after opening, the hub is already proving useful, as the Lifeways team held their first meeting to plan a full schedule of activities for December.

“This achievement stands as a testament to the power of true partnership,” said Estella Dick, Area Manager at Lifeways.

“It has only been possible through the collaborative efforts of Vanessa Kukuruzovic, me, our dedicated support staff, and the unwavering commitment of Gary Wardle. Gary has played a pivotal role in turning our tenant’s dreams into reality.”

Yorkshire Housing played a significant role in renovating the hub, contributing not only a fresh coat of paint but also new flooring, furniture, and essential items such as tables, chairs and gardening tools.

Gary Wardle, Senior Supported Housing Officer at Yorkshire Housing, added: “For us, it was never just about giving the annexe a fresh coat of paint, it was about creating something that genuinely supports people’s day-to-day lives.

“We wanted a space that felt welcoming, flexible and truly theirs. Seeing the customers already using it to plan activities, spend time together and take pride in looking after the outdoor areas shows just how much it means. We couldn’t be happier for them!”
