32 years in the care industry
We caught up with Service Manager Eileen Cloherty from our Croydon, South London office, who told us all about her care career and her life at Lifeways.
"I have been working in the care industry for 32 years. I had a wealth of experience within the sector before I even started working at Lifeways back in 2011. However, I wanted to expand my career. I joined the team at Lifeways to build up my experiences and progress. I started Lifeways as a Support Worker and progressed to Deputy Manager when I managed one of our services for a year. This was before becoming a Service Manager myself. Working at Lifeways pushed me to achieve my goals and get to where I am now.
My promotion was all thanks to my previous manager, Tamara Okei-Achamba, and my present area manager Karen Campbell. They believed in me, which gave me the confidence that I have today. As I am dyslexic, I never knew that I will be where I am today. Lifeways has given me the opportunity to succeed in my career.
As a Service Manager at Lifeways, my average day includes overlooking my four services, to ensure they are running smoothly. I check in on all my team, seeing that they are doing ok with their role and checking on those we support, to ensure they are having their needs met. I believe it's so important to be a part of the daily lives of the people we support. It's amazing work to see them reach their personal goals".
We have so many opportunities for you to progress in your care career with training, development and support from your manager. You can even move to other departments so you can pursue your career goals.
