Lifeways presented with International Safety Award
Lifeways has won an International Safety Award from the British Safety Council in recognition of its commitment to keeping its workers and workplaces healthy and safe during the 2025 calendar year.
It is one of 428 organisations to achieve a Merit in the International Safety Awards 2026.
Now in their 68th year, the International Safety Awards recognise and celebrate organisations from around the world which have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the scheme’s independent judges their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health during the previous calendar year. The awards also acknowledge organisations that have shown commitment to wellbeing and mental health at work.
In 2026, 851 organisations won an International Safety Award. They span all sectors with significant representation from the construction, manufacturing, oil, gas, mining, power and utility sectors. Winners were drawn from 51 countries worldwide. 230 organisations were awarded a Distinction, 428 organisations were awarded a Merit and 193 organisations achieved a Pass.
Heather Wright, Head of Health and Safety at Lifeways, said: “We’re thrilled to have won an International Safety Award from the British Safety Council. This recognition reflects the dedication of our teams across Lifeways who work hard every day to maintain safe, supportive environments for team members and the people we support.
“The data shows we continue to keep people safe. Serious incidents are at an all time low and claims costs resulting from accidents have reduced 90% in the last 4 years. This is a collective effort and a result of improved recruitment, enhanced training, strengthened policies and procedures and a 2-year transformation programme that has successfully implemented Nourish eSupport. Everything we do is aimed at improving positive outcomes for the people we support and our teams.
“Health, safety and wellbeing remains front and central to the way we operate, and this award highlights the collective effort made across the organisation over the last few years to ensure we continue providing safe and effective care and support.”
Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, congratulated Lifeways on their success in winning an International Safety Award 2026 with a Distinction: “Our winners have all made significant and continued efforts to protect and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in their organisations.
“All the winners, and those who were shortlisted, have dedicated substantial time, resources and commitment to ensuring their work, teams and workplaces remained healthy and safe during 2025. I also thank all organisations who took time to apply for these awards, and to our panel of volunteer judges for adjudicating.
“It is our vision at the British Safety Council that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – wherever that takes place around the world. By sharing the achievements of the winners of these awards, we can inspire other employers everywhere to follow their lead and give workers’ health, safety and wellbeing the priority it rightly deserves.
“The long list of winners of the International Safety Awards, demonstrates that a significant number of companies recognise that effective management of health and safety risks is a business growth enabler, benefiting not just employees, but organisations and wider society.”
He continued: “Our sincere congratulations to Lifeways. All of those working at Lifeways should be enormously proud of their achievement.”
