The Haven rated ‘Good’ across all areas after major turnaround

A Lifeways residential care service in Brighton has been rated ‘Good’ across all areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), marking a significant turnaround from its previous ‘Requires Improvement’ rating in 2023. 

Following a recent inspection, The Haven was praised for the positive experience of people supported, who inspectors observed appearing relaxed and content, responding to staff with smiles, hugs and genuine warmth and affection.

“Our team has worked incredibly hard to create a warm, homely environment where people feel safe, valued and supported, while building strong, trusting relationships with those they support. It’s fantastic to see their dedication and commitment to person-centred care recognised by the CQC.” 

The CQC assesses services across five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. At its previous inspection in 2023, The Haven was rated ‘Requires Improvement’ overall, with the same rating in Effective, Responsive and Well-led. It was rated ‘Good’ in Safe and Caring. 

Following its latest inspection, carried out between 4 and 13 August, The Haven was awarded a ‘Good’ rating in every category. 

Inspectors recognised that team members knew the people they support exceptionally well, understanding their individual preferences and needs, and responding effectively to even subtle cues when support needs or preferences change. 

Family members also spoke positively about the progress made within the service. Relatives highlighted improvements to menu planning and dietary support, increased opportunities for activities and engagement, and a noticeable enhancement in overall quality of life for their loved ones. 

They also praised the regular newsletters provided by the service, which help families remain connected by sharing updates and photographs of the activities and experiences people are enjoying.
