Specialist mental health recovery by SIL
Recovery isn’t a destination - it’s a journey. We walk alongside each person, breaking the cycle of long-term hospital stays and institutional care, helping people move towards fulfilling, independent lives in their own communities.
Taking a holistic approach to mental health recovery
At SIL, our dedicated and experienced teams specialise in recovery-focused supported living for adults severely affected by mental ill health. Our mission is simple: to create safe, supportive environments that feel like home, and to empower individuals to regain confidence, independence and hope.
Our recovery model is built on openness, trust, and honesty. We adopt a strengths-based approach, focusing on each person’s abilities rather than limitations. Our teams act as coaches, not authority figures, helping people build resilience, develop life skills, and take positive steps toward self-management.
Jonathan, Service Manager
We provide flexible, tailored support that adapts to changing needs. Our experienced Recovery Support Workers are available throughout the day, ensuring the right level of help is always on hand. Working side-by-side with our Quality and Practice Team, this approach allows us to manage risk effectively while encouraging positive risk-taking – something we feel is an essential part of recovery.
Who we support: Complex mental health needs
SIL supports adults with severe mental health needs, specialising in helping people transition from long-term hospital placements, secure units, locked rehabilitation, and other institutional settings back into their local communities.
Many individuals we support have experienced institutionalisation, substance misuse, serious offending behaviour, or multiple failed placements. Our goal is to provide a fresh start and the opportunity to thrive.
Enabling positive risk-taking in a safe way
Safety and quality are at the forefront of our mental health support. Our risk management processes ensure a proactive approach across all services by identifying trends, sharing insights and guiding decisions based on real-life experience and research. This means the people we support can take positive steps forward while staying safe.
Further guidance is provided by our Quality and Practice Team, made up of registered mental health professionals, who provide wraparound support to services including:
- Facilitate safe transitions for individuals
- Enhance practice through reflective sessions and mentoring
- Build a skilled workforce through education and guidance
Acting as reflective companions, they create a safe space for learning and continuous improvement, helping our teams deliver proactive support that is compassionate, responsive and effective.
Our scheme fee model
At SIL, we take a flexible, weekly fee-based approach to funding that reflects the unpredictable nature of mental health recovery, where needs can fluctuate and progress happens at different speeds.
Our approach ensures Recovery Support Workers are available when needed, without rigid schedules that can hinder progress. This flexibility allows us to respond to challenges in real time.
To maintain transparency, we use a fee banding tool linked to each person’s pre-admission assessment. This assessment reviews historical and current needs and includes input from clinicians, care teams, and the individual themselves to ensure every placement has a clear plan and purpose, supported by experienced mental health professionals.
